Full Circle, exhibition overview

Artist's Statement: "Full Circle" invites the audience to ponder upon the beauty and value of seemingly insignificant things such as medicinal weed found onsite. Various natural materials were used in the recording process. This is to question the passing down of knowledge, holding on to time, and surrendering to unavoidable ephemerality.

Pim Sudhikam: 'In my work I try to find a good balance between what is made and what is found. I want to submit to the nature of fired-clay and keep certain evidence of my existence. That is my pride as a maker. Craftsmanship is very important to me. There are elements of natural phenomena and industrially made objects juxtaposed in my work. Fired clay, with its earthy qualities and timeless appeal, offers a unique medium for expressing the notion of time.'

Preenun Nana: 'In my work I reflect the delicacy of different cultures, inviting people from all walks of life to see beauty in small things and encouraging them to see the value inherent in nature, in their own environment and within them. At the core, I believe in exploring via conversations - setting up workshops with the younger generation and asking them to be my guide, walking at times in remote rural areas - in their land and sharing their knowledge about plants and herbs. This knowledge, including properties of what nature provides us, which they may have gained from elders in their community, I then record on materials like betel leaf fibre, and log them in my growing plant specimen diary.'
